Chapter 11

"That weave look good on you," said Tianna's date between the loud crunch of cheese-covered, jalapeño nachos. "Is that Yaki or Remy?"

Holding back a roll of her eyes, Tianna was at a loss for words.

She and her date were sitting in a large booth at a bustling T.G.I. Friday's located in downtown Chicago. The place was jumping, packed with groups of people having fun on a Friday night out, chatter and laughter ringing throughout the place as people downed shots of Tequila at the happening bar.

Tianna had dressed up extra cute for her special night out, in a knee-length yellow skirt, a sparkly white blouse, her flawless wig pulled into two pig tails with side-swept bangs brushed over her eyes. Shimmering shadow on her lids gave her a smoky finish while a soft lipstick gave her full lips that extra something.

But had she known what her date would look like, she would not have gone through with the effort.

She had originally told Shameka that she had wanted someone educated, tall, dark and handsome.

Leroy, her date, looked more like Big Worm from the movie Friday. While he was definitely big and dark, handsome he was not.

He was dressed casually in some jeans, flip flops, and a large, yellow shirt that was fast becoming spotted with cheese, his fat, bald head covered in a sheen of sweat from devouring the flaming-hot nachos.

Let this be the last time I ever ask Shameka to hook me up with a date, she thought with annoyance.

Tianna had flirted with the idea of online dating before going to her cousin for help. While she had seen some nice profiles of some attractive black men, she had always been one to think that people online were as fake as all could be.

The profiles she had read had looked and sounded too perfect.

Anyone could make a profile and portray all their best qualities while concealing their bad ones. Not to mention, people could post professional pictures from their youthful heydays when they looked their best, setting up their dating prospect for disappointment when they finally met and found out the hot picture they had been salivating over, was in fact a Gila monster.

Not only that, the recent event that happened in her car had her squeamish about posting a photo of herself online, making her think that she'd wind up with some crazy psycho out to get her ass.

So she had gone to Shameka with a list of demands and her cousin had sworn up and down that she could fulfill them.

"I got you covered girl," Meka had said over the phone the other day while Tianna was in the middle of cleaning Loretta. "Don't even worry. I know a lot of fine ass black men that got degrees."

It was hard to accept this as truth, considering Meka's man was a high-school dropout that barely supported his family.

"You had better be telling me the truth, Meka," Tianna had said, doubting Shameka's words, but willing to give her the benefit of the doubt considering her dwindling options.
